New KZ650 Gas Tank
07 Oct 2009 19:28
Hey guys,
I have a new oem kz650 gas tank for sale. The tank is immaculate. absolutely no rust at all inside or out, factory painted light blue with red lines. No Dents, No Dings, No Scratches. This is in PERFECT condition.
Bikebandit and Kawasaki sells them for around $650
Make me an offer @ brian.mailman3@gmail.com
This site has a very weak classifieds section which doesn't get alot of views so I thought I'd post it here.

Yea we need pictures to see what it is. New tank should be valued at around $200-$250 if it's perfect.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Ronk, according to bikebandit.com the tank is worth $675.10, and I know a Kawasaki Dealer won't be any cheaper.
Of course I'm not asking $675, I'm taking offers or the best offer.

They are list price at $675 or whatever, but they are not available any longer, so that may or may not mean it's worth that much money. I've bought 3 or 4 perfect NOS KZ650 tanks off ebay and each time was $200-$250. The last time was a perfect new tank complete with new emblems and a new gas cap for $250. Ebay seems to be a good gauge of the maximum price people are willing to pay, usually prices go way up and beyond what I would consider asking if I was selling. That's where I got the $200-$250 figure from. Being a KZ650C tank it seems less common than the B tank, so it may well be worth more, but it takes a buyer willing to spend the money. Most have been repainted by now sadly so a perfect NOS tank may not be something most guys are willing to pay the money for.

I understand what you're talking about but the prices they have up on Bikebandit are the actual prices they sell for the oem parts whether it be retail or not. I have purchased many things through them and through my local dealership for my 1981 Yamaha XS650H. The prices between the two are nearly identical (with maybe a few $ difference). $675.10 +/- a few dollars IS what you would pay for the replacement oem part if you walked into a dealership or purchase from bikebandit. Do I think that is a little excessive, of course I do and I wouldn't spend $675 on anything oem.
Many people buy stuff online like through ebay so they don't have to pay retail value, including myself. But you can only get away with that if there is a large supply of those particular items that you're looking for including aftermarket parts. The rarer the item, the more the price is going to be driven up and that with any bike, car, classic coke vending machine you name it.
I'm NOT asking for retail so it really doesn't matter.
I thought I'd ask for offers instead of stating what it's worth to me.

Very nice tank, no doubt about it. I think Ron is absolutely spot on. Many of us shop on eBay not because we are looking for a deal, but rather that is the only venue that the parts are available. I have picked up two NOS tanks on eBay...a 1982 KZ750R1 and a 1981 KZ1100B1...the R1 was purchased for US$225 and the B1 for US$200. Both the tanks list for $700+ retail. Neither of my tanks [e.g. bikes] (or the 650, for that matter) are particularly collectible so demand is somewhat diminished. If you has an NOS Z1 tank or a KZ1000R1 tank, then watch serious money. My point is that in an open forum like eBay, figure on about 1/3 suggested retail as an acceptable value for a sale...anything over that is pure gravy

nobody said I wouldn't sell it for $200 or $250, all I'm simply saying is if they were still in production, dealerships would be charging much more that what people want to pay. Btw, if ebay is your only source for NOS parts or parts in general, you should SERIOUSLY start looking around. Go to ebay and look up a 1978 xs650h NOS tank and you'll find 2 which are priced $200 more than than what the retail value is. There has only been a few KZ tanks on ebay since July that has sold less than $300.
