I got a garage to work on the bike!

Sweet, I just found a garage to rent for the winter to store my bike in. I have been living in a apt where I can't do any sort of work on the bike, and have been shelling out mad dollaz to the local garage to do my maintenace. I found a garage that I can store the bike in for 50 bucks a month...I am going to start with valve adjustment, manual cam chain tensioner, new ignition coils and coil mod. I have not been able to work on my truck or bike or anything in 3 years now...so it's weird but I can't wait for the winter so I can get some busted knuckles and bonding time with my bike.

That sure will come in handy. I resurrected my bike living in an apartment, and backing up the pick up to the front porch so I could use the tailgate as a workbench. Like they say if there is a will there is a way.

We are waiting for my gf to finish school and get a job, and we are going to find a house in the country with a barn and a big garage. We are planning on having goats, chickens, and a stable of bikes (or at least I am planning that part). But in the meantime I am happy because I can finally start to make the bike run and look the way that I want. The shop can suck my toe, and Z1E is going to be seeing some more business from me starting next month! Speaking of the shop, would it be weird of me to approach them about trading valve shims? I know that they trade shims when they are doing the work, but do shops usually trade shims when people are doing the work themselves?

Only if you have developed a good relationship with them...and maintain a friendly interaction... :)

Someone a while back was talking about a thread where people could exchange shims. I dont know the outcome of it but is sounds like a good idea to me.

I don't know yet, it's a stock 82 1000 LTD. Once the riding season (month or so) is over I am going to get down to my first valve adjustment and I will pm you if that's ok. Thanks for the offer!

Does the 1000 have the 29mm shims and the 550 have the under bucket shims?

Stock 1982 KZ1000 LTD has the over-bucket shims.

Good Luck! :)
