OK, so in preparation for this winters work I am starting to figure out what I will need to buy and an order for the work that I will do. I want to (among other things) replace the valve cover gasket, valve adjustment, manual chain tensioner, and replace the head gasket. Would it be best for me to adjust the valves, and then remove the cams and head? or should I take everything out, replace the head gasket and do the valve adjustment after it's back together?

You could do the adjustment first and keep every thing in order and run down the shims you need. Roy

If you are not going to do any head work or tear the head down i think this would be the way to go. Roy

I am going to take the head off only so I can change the head gasket, and maybe do some cleaning, but I don't plan on doing any other work for now.

When you replace the head gasket you will need to order the orings for the oil passages as they dont come with the gasket kit.

thanks for the heads up, I didn't know that. I am going to make a thread in about a month aimed to help Newbs like me, so I hope to find these little tidbits along the way in that thread.
