You did take the sticker off of the windshield? Wearing a helmet is no good if you can't see through it. Or maybe you bought and have yet to wear it?:woohoo: :blush:Well, I should be good for a couple of years yet - bought this one last summer, Uvex Helix RS, super light carbon fiber, only weighs 900 grams/2 lbs and is a perfect fit.
Wasn't cheap but then neither is my head - listing price was $ 600 +, when they offered me a 50% discount I couldn't resist. Won't post any pics of the one it replaced  let's just say a change was way overdue, the old helmet was like 12 years old.
Just messin around. I have an Arai helmet and trust me the extra money spent is well worth it if you put some miles on the bike. The more expensive helmets that I have worn as opposed to the cheaper ones I have had all seem to be neck tiring wind grabbing sweat boxes on your head. Those creature comforts matter in the long run. It's like buying your shoes from payless versus buying them from a more expensive place. Sure they fit and fell ok but in the long run there is always something that feels and protects your feet better.
I hated the idea of spending more money on a helmet when my brother just gave me his Arai when he sold his bike. Man! Now I am hooked. The helmet is lighter so when you ride long distance your neck doesn't get a bad krick in it and it ventilates so you don't look like a sweathog when it comes off and it doesn't bob around so much like the cheaper ones do when you are crackin upwards of 80mph. I won't skimp on the next helmet I buy for sure I won't like paying that extra buck but what the f!@# if you don't wear one because they are uncomfortable and fall.... nuff said

it would be nice if a magazine 'scored' all the helmets on comfort, noise, visibility, as well as safety, etc.
My current helmet is a decent helmet, but the wind noise with the visor just cracked is impossible - it gets a nasty whistling noise. It has 6 or 7 positions for the visor - so you can't control it's position that well.
Something I will avoid in the next helmet for sure...

Agreed on that one.
It has been mentioned that the manufacturers do not have to test helmets for the DOT certification, they only have to certify they meet the standards. This is very common here in the good ole USA. We hear a lot about the FMVSS standards and how they are supposed to keep us safe - but they work the same way - the car manufacturers do not have to prove compliance - they simply have to make the statement that they comply.
Seems like an odd way of doing things to me!

Here in Kentucky they do not have a helmet law, but I think they should just to be fair to automobile drivers. Here is my logic... The law requires me to wear a seatbelt inside a
4-5000 pound steel cage (4 wheeled vehicle) but yet allows
a motorcycle rider to cruise alongside a 60.000 pound truck on the interstate @ 70+ mph. If you don't want to wear a helmet OK but shouldn't I have the same choice on the seatbelt? And by the way I'm 52 and have always worn my seatbelt since I was 16...but it was MY choice. I just don't like someone else (the laws) dictating what I choose or choose not to do. Sorry about the rant just needeed to vent.

This place gets gov money for seatbelt use. Because it's a law we get some money for the roads and I believe insurance rates are also effected by the seatbelt law. Although you would know it by my rates or our roads. I wonder how many babies are made cause you don't have to wear a raincoat?

I drive a ford supercrew 4 x 4. Guessing at the weight.
I may have got overexcited about the weight. However hopefully you can see my point. I just don't like or trust the government (dictators).

for you guys that have noisy lids do what i do for longer trips over an hour i use diposable ear plugs the foam type i dont stuff them in ijust put them in so that they cover the ear canal it cuts down 90% of the wind howl and yet you can still hear fairly good when you slow down. i grab 10-15 sets before i hit the road and change them out every few hours and i feel as fresh as a daisy when i get to where im going

TB, Good post.Have been doing same for years. not only does white noise add to fatigue, pressure changes can give low level headaches, and the ability to hear birds chirping at the end of the day is almost as good as opening your eyes after medititating. G
