Really Nice Engine for Sale
17 Feb 2009 10:10
I noticed this engine on eBay today, and if you add it all up, the price really isn't that bad. I'm not sure you could do all that for this much money. It sure looks good anyway...

Oh yeah. But not for me. Fleabay is not to be trusted.:S Too many sheisters out there trying to make a quick buck. I see people I know sell absolute garbage MkIIs or LTD's or Hondas that are all but worthless for really good money. This guy put a nice paint job original looking that up close you could see wasn't great but on camera looked fabulous the bike wasn't even running and the guy bought it for 6k!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it? He sold another 200 dollar bike for 3 grand! Pinholes in the paint job and tacky looking seat refinish.
But hey it looks great.

Judging by the picture of the 3 engines it looks like this guy has a little assembly line. The engine looks nice and if all he says is true it may be a high quality rebuild. But something inside my little brain says if I was to shell out $2250 - $3000 for an engine I would want a warranty. Otherwise, just think how I'd feel if it blew up after 10 minutes of run time. Ed

at the end of the day, you have a stock 900 for $3000 if you use the buy it now.
it is a real nice looking motor and it seems like it was put together with all the right parts.
i could build me a nice 1075 with cams and a backcut tranny for that amount. then at least i know the cylinder taper is in spec, not just ball honed to break glaze.
but then again, i like performance builds, not stock resto's.
( never found a nice enough bike to do a period correct resto. maybe ronkz650 wants to donate to the cause? )

Good point Roy! I think you learn from your mistakes. Each build is probably a little better than the previous one. Hopefully that's not his first one for sale!
Very good point about the warranty, 650ed. I hadn't thought of that but you should certainly get one for that kind of money. I'd at least want a thousand mile warranty just to make sure it's put together correctly.
On the other hand, I'm sure race engines from even the top builders don't have a warranty either, so maybe we're asking for too much?
