craig vetters "mystery ships"
12 Dec 2008 08:39
san luis obispo ca 70s-80s. Mr Vetter had a factory at one time and he built a number(ten i think)of kz1000 flagships for his co.called mystery ships each with a number.
When he sold em they got mixed reviews i think.
there was a guy that drove one around town black and blue with the #5 on it...
The last unsold one i knew of and sat on is now on the barber museum sites stuff..
I got two complete mk11 body sets new in the box in 86 from the owner of slo city cycles for a case of coronas each(with a lime in each pack of course)
when craig bought the bikes at that shop the deal was less bodywork priced and these had been in the rafters ever since. till i climbed up one day and found em.(long gone from me now)...
I believe there were stages 1-3 sold...and twelve years ago i saw #8 i think?? at a monterey wharf cycle shop all turboed out ,the owner had it for sale...
anyone know any other history or where some of em went to or sites that show em(japan prob...peace craig

There was one listed fairly recently (within the past two years or so) on Cycletrader.com and it was from a collector in Lafayette, Louisiana...price was US$25,000...betcha it's still unsold:)

you know i actually saw that add and was kinda thinking it was crazy too....some folks got a lot of money in this world(a lot) so i guess you never know and he was fishing...i would think there would be a site about them or for them...mr vetter was kinda in the thick of the kz team racing for a while ....the same shop owner was drunk one nite and gave me a wrecked vetter race tank,mk11 with reg pridgmores name in stencills and the vetter logo on each side..i remember it had dual petcock holes..one each side...lost that too in my younger days...peace craig

It's no mystery why they didn't sell is it.... butt ugly... such a shame to butcher a perfectly good motorcycle and turn it into a piece of junk... not that I'm disliking it any...
