All my buddies are into sport bikes.. Not me
08 Oct 2008 15:14
Every time i ride with my buddies they all joke around and say why dont you sell your dinosaur bikes and buy a sport bike?? Now don't get me wrong i love were technology has gone with the modern bikes, my buddies 03 gsxr 600 could eat my 900 on top end. But i think there is something magical about reviving a 34 year old bike from a 20 plus year nap, and having it as a very reliable daily rider for the last 2 years. I almost broke down last year and bought a 05 gsxr 1000, till i rode my buddies gsxr 600 and it just wasnt for me. Plus whenever i go somewere i always get compliment's on my bikes. Anybody else feel the same way?? Thanks Jim.

I feel that way. I just love the look, and nobody in my whole province will have a 77 KZ810, let alone one with all the same mods as mine. And you're right, I woke my bike up from a ten year slumber in 2003 and she's been the love of my life ever since.

Yea, your preaching to the choir. I hate the ergo of a modern sport bike. My KZ fits me like a glove and I can sit on it all day without any real pain.
I also like when I stop at a MC hang out and most people will check out my ride while completely ignoring all the exotic(expensive) modern stuff.

I was into all the newest models for many years, from 1972 models to 1984 I owned several of each model year, spent a small fortune on new motorcycles. Then I "upgraded" to modern sport bikes, and sport tourers. Had a new Yamaha FZ750, FZR1000 back in the 80s, then a Concours, BMW, then finally the most pitiful excuse ever built with two wheels a Yamaha FJ1200. After about 10 tries and 10 misses, I figured new models are not for me. That was 18 years ago, and to think what motorcycles have come to now. I can put it into one simple word---GARBAGE. I thank the lord I kept my KZs as I bought all these pieces of utter crap.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Ya you guy's i completly agree, i can ride my z1 all day and not be sore. Since i have been working out of my garage i had a new suzuki gsxr come in, it was completly messed up. I replaced all the plastics, clip-on bars, muffler and so on. I rode the thing for a week, i really liked the performance of it, and it would wheelie to no end. But i rode it on a 150 mile round trip, and couldn't move the next day:angry:
. Now on the other hand i rode the z1 from here to lexington, ohio to mid ohio vintage bike days, It was 315 miles i was a bit sore but, there would be no way i could ride that gsxr the same distance. KZ's forever.

The Sport Bike Parade just kind of passed me by, and I didn't hardly notice. I never caught the sport bike bug, and have never been curious about riding them. Give me a 70s muscle bike any day.

The group rides I go on around here almost all of the riders have crotch rockets. When they give me a hard time I always say-paint all of your bikes white, stand back twenty feet and try to tell me what bike is what. Also out at the track everyone over the age of 30 or so stops at my bike to have a look and ask questions and tell their story. All the teens stop and look at the sportbikes. hat sounds like fun. I do have to admit that I'm thinking about getting a Busa next summer. I have been loyal to Kawasaki my whole life but the Busa makes my tummy feel funny.

I just got back Tuesday from a 4-day, 1000-mile trip to the Tail of the Dragon (trip report coming soon). No way I could have made that trip on a crotch rocket. But no problems on my KZ. The riding position on crotch rockets, and cruisers for that matter, is not comfortable to me. I like standard bikes. But I gotta admit, a sport bike would have been fun as hell on the Dragon! Some of those guys are insane...

The biggest complaint I have about the Modern bikers and Hearly riders.
They can't fix a damn thing themselves.
Yes I had help on some of mine, know my limits. But I know the beast like the back of my hand. Can trouble shoot the issues before going for help. If needed.
Most just shrug then complain about the mechanics cost.
my 2 cents.
