05 Aug 2008 16:10
Deciding to sell or not my KZ and need help on what it`s worth so I can price it accordingly. The details-`78 KZ 1000A,25k miles, almost all stock except for newer cast wheels, seat recovered and nice black paint.Carbs need going thru agian but was running good last year, otherwise typical nice shape for year/milage,comes with spare set of carbs and `81 dual disc front end.

This sounds very familiar. Are you the guy who posted the Boston area craigslist ad for the KZ1000 @ $500?

Oh, no, I guess that wouldn't be you. Sorry. Your post sounded very familiar to an email response I received but this one's apparently a 1980.

Well, prices can be affected by area of the country, weather, and season, not to mention all those factors you mentioned.
By far, the largest factor I see is the fact it is not running...personally, it is a deal-killer unless the price is exceptionally low. If it was running and in the condition as shown, you might get US$2000 to US$2500 for it.

$500 for the pictured unit is a steal.... Wish it was here in Arizona for I'd snag it up quick...
Hell, the 28/29mm carbs are worth that alone any longer. Try pricing 29mm smoothbores on e-bay these days, it's crazy what they want for them. Usually what you see is missing parts, stripped screws, rust, gunk etc.. for ~$500-$600. Then add rebuild kits, it's crazy!
Here in AZ I just looked at a KZ900-A4 with motor in frame, rusted to crap and the guy wanted $500. I mean this thing was worthless where the only thing I needed was the engine for the cases. Everything else was rusted or missing to the point where you wouldn't even be able to use it. Offered him $100, no sale. Told him to dream on... He'll most likely get it I assume...
Anyhow, post images and what you have done (if any) to the bike and the forum members would be able to give you a better idea of what you can most likely expect in $$$.

OMR, where'd that come from? I didn't see anything above indicating it was equipped with 29mm smoothbores. As far as I know, the 29mm smoothbores were aftermarket carbs and didn't come stock on any Kawasaki.
