Likely a Norton with a lot of Dunstall parts on it, it was a pretty popular thing to do in the late 60's and early 70's.

I was living in the UK at the time and did it myself, Dunstall fairing, rearsets, clipons, etc, I had Gus Kuhn Motors (builder of the John Player Nortons) build the motor though :)

Oh to be 21 years old, single, load's of spare cash, and living in England again :(

Lots and lots of pictures! Trade a few fingers for it if you have to! I'd love to have a Norton or a Triumph.
If I were a polygamist I'd have a few KZ's to do all the housework and one of those just to sit and be pretty, though I'd still love them all!

Actually, Nortons are a bad thing. Do not buy it. Send me the address where it is located and I will see that it is properly disposed of. Honest.

That slinky doesn't look OEM Norton slinky.Must be aftermarket.;) Looks like work but really cool work. I love those old Nortons. Is there some numbers somewhere that you can determine if it is 750 or an 850? Year or anything?
Did you hear some kind of history as to why it is there and who it belonged too etc? That part of the coolness you know, The history.

It looks a bit neglected and in need of a lot of degreasing. Once you get it cleaned up and running you'll certainly own a prize!

It's been a long time, but if I recall correctly 1972 was the first year for front disc brakes, 1973 was the first 850, and the 1974 850 was the first with electric start.
Definitely a Dunstall fairing, definitely not a Norton tail or Dunstall Norton.

Again, IIRC, the Norton Fastback was the only one with a tail, and that's not a fastback tail. The mufflers don't look stock to me either, all the ones I recall had a tapered outlet.

Best to check out a Norton forum and let them tell you what it is. You found a gem for sure. Might not be original but it sure is cool and will be awesome when restored.

Looks like my memory isn't totally gone :)
Norton first offered the disc brake as an option in 1972, with them becoming standard on the 1973 model year. Rear disc was offered only in 1975.

Former Norton owner/racer, 1972-1974

Some VIN info for the 850 models (73 and up) can be found at atlanticgreen.com/commandoframes.htm

That's the International Norton Owners Site.

Everything I have found so far indicates that my memory is correct, and that's pretty surprising considering it's been over 30 years :D

Here is a 1970 Dunstall Norton.

And a John Player Norton

And a stock 72 Norton 750 Commando

Nice find. Those old RWL Avons will be slick as owl shit in the wet. You're likely cursed now. What's gonna happen is you'll find another nice old bike in a few months and then another and before you know it you'll have a dozen of the things in various states of repair. The old lady will be bitching, the insurance company will tell you you need a 'dealers' policy, and the state tax boys will start snooping around. It's worth it.
