That's local to me. Very sad... Don't see how he could have missed seeing that coming.
Can't help but think a good riding mentor maybe could have helped prevent a needless trajedy.

Thanks for the research, Tim. I should have done that myself.
Still, regardless of the outcome, he was evidently out-riding his headlight (whether he was actually doing 120 MPH is questionable as these sorts of numbers are generally embellished) and was clearly operating his motorcycle above any speed that could have been argued as "reasonable and prudent".
I'm not happy that this turned out to be incorrect or that Brandon was killed as a result of his stupidity. I didn't take into account that had he been alive that time would have been taken to photograph the scene before paramedics would have begun their work.
Sadly, for the rest of us, Brandon's actions and resulting death give just a little more ammunition to those that want to outlaw "high powered" motorcycles.
Some of you may recall a post I made of a similar incident that occurred near here in April 2005 (probably in the archives) where a local guy (motocross rider, actually) bought a sportbike on Saturday, on Monday evening was at the neighbors and the neighbor's kid rode it around the block a couple of times and then on Tuesday night rode it to his girlfriend's place about 35 miles away. After leaving her place with her on the back he ran into the back of a farm implement less than a mile away. She was killed "instantly". He died later that next morning in Topeka.
That incident affected me for some reason. I didn't work on my bike nor did I ride it from that point until I took the MSF course in June. I just want to say that stupid actions not only affect family and friends, but others you've never met. Ride careful out there folks.

I know I'm gonna get hammered for my "lack of compassion" but this reminds me of a quote from Robert A Heinlein in the "Diary of Lazarus Long"... "Stupidity is a crime against the Laws of Nature and punishable by death"
I just wish the "stupid" would eliminate themselves w/o taking others and do it before they breed.

So sad. Kids nowadays go out and buy these little 600's that go 155mph and cut a mid 10sec quarter. Way too much bike for inexperianced riders. Plus a lot of these kids still have the no fear factor flowing through their body and mind. I'm sorry, but 120mph in the dark at 1:00am is not the smart way. RIP..

Those pics are several years old. I don't remember which web site originally posted them, but those pics have definitely been around the block.

It really is unfortunate that so many young people today don't perceive the danger they hold in their right hands.
The following incident happened last week less than a mile from my home.
