I wrote him and told him there was a kick lever in the picture and also mentioned the year might be wrong. Nice looking little bike though.

btw skyman, everyone knows you need to relocate your battery so your r2d2 will fit properlly but i think your right on the hyperdrive location.

Kawasaki.com lists two 1980 KZ650's:
1980 KZ650E LTD
1980 KZ650F Custom
And both have a kickstarter.
At least kawasaki.com says the KZ650E has
a kickstarter, and I had a 1980 KZ650F
Custom and I know it had a kickstarter.
Starting in 1981, KZ650H CSR models (81 was
first year for the 650H) had a HyVo style
cam chain (like the 750 fours) and no
kickstarter.
As far as I have been able to discover
during my research on the 650/750 bikes,
only the KZ650H models had the HyVo cam
chain and no kickstart.
The bike listed in the eBay ad is a 1980 KZ650F Custom.
Don't know why he couldn't find the kickstarter though. :S

That bike is a 79 KZ650 B-3. I've had that bike on my watch list and I wouldn't mind buying it if it goes cheap enough mainly because I want the LTD seat on it. The major drawback for me is I'm looking at a 450 mile drive to go get it. That and I just agreed to buy another 77 650 C-1 on Monday :pinch: . I really didn't need another 650 but the guy needs money for Christmas and for $175.00 I couldn't say no. Considering it has a Kerker pipe on it and a set of green Dyna coils I figure it is a pretty good buy.

I just gor a reply from the seller and the build date is 12/79. And the bike turns over.
I thought Orange County was near the Pennsylvania border in southern New York.

Now this has me scratching my head :S a 12/79 build date would make it a 1980 but that year Kaw only made 2 models of the 650, the 650 LTD and the 650 F model both of which came with mag wheels. This one has spokes and the paint scheme is from 79 as well.

Yep, you're right, I made the mistake of assuming that the seller actually got the year right, not something you should do when looking at for sale ads.
And yes the 80 model 850F had mags with rear drum brakes (had to look it up at kawasaki.com), sold my F1 almost three years ago.
