Tractor vs KZ750 ... tractor wins !!!
14 Oct 2007 17:28
Well folks ... I just spent my whole summer doing a frame up rebuild on an old KZ750 LTD. Finnally got her done a week ago Thursday, Oct 4th. I got to ride my beautiful old bike for just a tick over 500 miles.
Today my 15 year old daughter was riding our 3 cylinder diesel Cub Cadet around the yard ... just basically learning how to drive it. I showed her all the controls, etc, etc. and she seemed to understand how how everything worked. So I turned her loose. We have 4 acres of land and she was riding the tractor around out back ... or so I thought ! Next thing I know I am sitting on my front porch with my bike not 10 feet away from me on the porch sidewalk ... I hear the tractor coming closer and here she comes .... she turned the corner around the house and proceeded to totally destroy my KZ ... run it right over it with the very best of Monster Truck form. The bike pushed along for about 8 feet under the tractor until everything came to rest against the house. Becca simply panicked and pushed the forward pedal instead of the brake ... basically she lost control. Thank God no one was hurt ... Becca feels horrible at this point and so do I but the Good Lord has a plan ... and a reason for everything sooooo .....
I think the frame is teaked pretty hard ... the front fork assembly is junk as are the handlebars, gauges and gas tank ... the side stand looks like a pretzel ... there is even substantial damage at the rear fender / tail light.
I'm a little too sick at the moment to objectively assess all of the damage ... but I think it's totalled
I'll post up some pics in a day or two.

Oh Gawd . so sorry to hear this. It must be so demoralising to see all your efforts destroyed. Poor kid must feel awfull. Perhaps it will teach her a valuable lesson for when she gets behind the wheel of a car. As for the bike...............what can I say. Hope you can find another and maybe better project.

WOW, don't really know what to say. My bike just got wreaked in my accident in August. It's no where as bad as yours. I'm sorry bud.

That's incredible, Dale. Of all the wrecked-bike stories I've read and heard over the years, yours is right up there for strangeness. Thankfully no one was injured in the whole mess. As you say, there's a reason for everything that happens.....so you'll have to start looking for your next project.....just a lot sooner than you'd anticipated.
I hope you have a lot better luck next time, man.

Doing a search,I came up with this pic.
Dale,I hope You don't mind that I'm re-posting this pic here,Bud,but I thought I would show Your hard work this summer.
(I see the winning tractor there too.)
MAN...You can TELL that You put a lot of hard work into it.

Dale, my heart aches for you and your daughter. What a mess! I had been following your project and I couldn't believe what I was just reading. Luckily no one was hurt, but I'm sure she just feels awful about it. Poor kid!

Man that makes me sick, your bike came out so nice. At least no one was hurt. It must have been quite a sight though.

Dale that sucks, I'm probably the only member here to actually see how nice your bike came out in person (it looked really sweet guys). If you decide to put it back together this winter let me know I've got a parts bike here that would have pretty much everything you would need.

OUCH, bummer Dale.
We all know how much work it took to get it looking so sweet. And I personally know how Becca feels. I think I was about 11 when I too got the buck fever, froze up and drove my uncle's tractor into his pond.
But unlike poor Becca, I was a boy, I wasn't even supposed to be on the damn thing, and a@@ whuppin's were still legal. :pinch:  :pinch:  :pinch:
