Aussie Z1R 11 models ('80) came in black with the 22 litre tank standard, we also got the stupid long rear mudguard, I have a stock size one stored in my parts shed and cut the one on my road bike to be shorter. I am pretty sure we also got the slightly longer indicator/turn signal stalks.

That's exactly what I was thinking! Looks like they had chrome mirrors, also; amongst the other differences.
That is a big-ass gas tank, but still ... I can't help but like it. It'd make for a cool 'spare'; if one could be had reasonably.

BTW Mick,
Thanks for posting those pics! I really appreciate it! The Z1-R is definately a cult-bike and I guess I'm one of those guys; they're just a wicked-cool bike, and the little Euro (and Auzzie) differences are very interesting to me.
When I'm done "de-purifying" mine I'll post some pics.

Hey Tony, are you sure that it was the 22 and not the 18 liter gas tank? I never heard about that the 22 liter tank was sold outside Germany and UK.
And yes the shorter indikator are only in the US.
Here is another version of the Z1R.
Z2R only sold in France. The importer changed the 18 inch to a 19" front wheel and used better shocks.
So Kawasaki told him that he has to rename the bike and must use other decals.

Yeah mick, when I did the POR-15 treatment on my tank and then put it back on, I filled it up with 2 10 litre fuel drums plus about 1.5 litres from a third container, I also filled it up at the servo the other day and took just under 21 ltrs,(I was on desperation reserve at the time.
Cheers
Tony
