There could be a whole thread on this. My set-up is quite simple.
I use a small HVLP gun, water separator, pressure reducing regulator and a Rapid Nail small compressor.
For the paints, primers, basecoats, midcoats, (some coloured midcoats for the "Candy" effect) reducers and clearcoats I follow the manufacturers instructions. Not everything has to "be by the book" but long term results are better if you do. I have made mistakes and had to redo things a couple of times but that is how you learn.
I could do another thread on just my painting when I get the time. For now I just have to finish these 2 paint jobs, rebuild the engine, disassemble the bike in my basement and reassemble it in my garage, then repaint another bike tank to sell it......
