Oh, this thing is going to be black. Black rims, black tank and rear fairing, black bars. I'm not a big fan of chrome usually but if I paint the fenders black I might be accused of pretending to be Batman. Also thinking of a tiny 1/4" pinstripe along the bottom of the tank and the bottom of the rear fairing in Kawasaki green just to show off.

All my British bikes had painted fenders... nothing wrong with that.

Finally got my body work back from the shop and see the beginning of what the overall look is. I think I will keep the fenders chrome after all. The stock side covers arent going back on, the ugliest thing that Kawasaki ever built those are. Maybe put a couple of black ovals in those big empty triangles with a white 76 painted on them. Supposed to be 14C or ~60F here on Xmas eve. Nuts.

For those side covers you may want to check out the KZ750 LTD twin covers to see if they will fit. They are much smaller and look good. Here's a picture. Ed

I was going to suggest aftermarket side covers like mine. I had Shaft covers but one fell off, the other was stolen.

I could trace a pattern and mail it to you to check fitment if you'd like.

Thanks Steve.
Originally I was going for a cafe-ish empty triangle but jeebus that triangle is pretty big on my bike as it turns out. The Z1000 fills out the triangle alright but not sure if thats what I want. Also thinking of Eds suggestion to use an LTD side cover. Anyone know if a Z1 side cover could be made to fit? Then I could be a total poser trying to pass my sedate twin off as a Z1. Hold off on tracing it out for now while I fuss and worry for a while

Z1 covers may fit but there is a definite size diference.
The only problem with covers like steve suggests is they aren't made anymore, the company that did them (maier) went out of business or something and liquidated all their stock.
Makes them kind of hard to find

well, maybe I'll make some molds and make some out of fiberglass. Glad I fixed the ones I have.
