New to site Got loads of questions

Hello all
I recently purchased a 78 kz1000 ltd 9000 miles. I bought it off a guy that had it for 12 years; it basically was run once in a while. Got it for under a grand; and it runs like a top but of course needs some serious TLC. Floaters in tank, flat tires...

1. It looks like Kawasaki used the same motor from a 77 to a 78? My engine serial number falls in with both years, but my frame is dated 5/77, serial #s show as 78 A2. Thoughts?
2. Tires: I have the mag wheels Front: 100/90/19 Rear: 140/90/16 Whats the biggest tire that will fit on these?
3. Where is the best place to get parts for the KZ? Dennis Kirk bypasses 77 & 78, Bike Bandit is vague at best...caliper rebuild kit, front brake lines, etc..

Your help is greatly appreciated, I will posting pics asap and will keep forum updated on my progress.

Regards

MO'B

cant help you that much on production dates bikes are a little closer than cars production date vs production year

but the 140 is probably it on rear tire size without a swngarm swap and Jeff of Z1 Enterprises is
a member on here and is allot of our members goto guy for parts while Ebay is my best friend for mods
Z1parts.net redline and american classix are a couple more that are a good source. kz10006 has been invaluable for me he seems to have anything I need used.

x3 on z1 enterprises...they ship super fast and have the best quality and price...no hassle phone service etc..parts on at your doorstep in days

under a 1000 you scored

post some pictures

mt9016 for the rear is as wide as you can fit and a great tire
100 0r 110 front but the 110 might rub the fork to fender bolts

those sizes will handle awesome

check out avon roadriders they are the shit for old bikes and come in those sizes and are v rated

you can score a set online for about 220

If you are gonna line your tank I would look at some other options While Kreem works there are newer more advanced liners that are a better choice I am not impressed with the Kreem product.

but i havent tried any of the others just not a fan of Kreem

welcome.
nice score.

alot of folks like www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/DAM0/R...1&pt=N2392&ppt=C0126

for a tank liner.

to me it is a last ditch effort to coat a tank, ymmv.

progressive makes some nice affordable shocks, ikon makes nicer shocks for a lil more cash, ohlins makes works of suspension art, expect to pay accordingly.

Just wanted to keep everyone up to speed on build of the supposedly 1978 LTD which is now a 78 A2?
I have been working with Jim at Redline Cycles and boy did I get him pissed. Turns out I have a dual piston rear disc brake with dual brakes up front (w/ 79 rotors on front). I was told it was an LTD due to it having dual front brakes and mag wheels. After further investigation my frame is dated 5/77 but serial numbers are for a 78 A2. Motor was used in 77 and 78 models.

Heres some pics of rear brakes, wheel and scoot on lift. Oh and tank liner...Thoughts?

Seems like you still got a pretty good deal on it, no matter what the pieces are. :)
