Man u guys dont miss a thing! I was also concerned with the missing frame bracing also, but it turns out whom ever cut up this thing covered their bases, the backbone on this thing is 1/8'' wall tubing, im not so concerned now

it probably wouldnt be as much of an issue in a straight line,id be really worried about cornering though

The frame height and rake on this thing isnt gonna handle much of a corner anyways. Where Im from its pretty flat, not to many twisties to be concerned with. The only thing I want this thing is be fun to rip around on, and turn some heads.

Even in a straight line it'll flex under power and hooked up. Yrs ago there was a 700 yahama phaser around indy with an fzr 1000 motor with LOTS of spray running deep in the 8's, riders claimed the could see the left side of the front tire when it was on a good pass. You have a motor tugging on the left side of the chassis trying to compress it, basically trying to bend the chassis in a circle, when that happens you have a big spring that's waiting to unload. You'll be pulling your hair out trying to get it lined out. If you have the resources to add bracing back in I'd prolly do it.

Re: Z1 900 mono shock project

sorry no pics. my camera on my phone is sucking! Not much to look at anyways. But here is a update. So I have been reworking the hurricane frontend. Had to cut new spring spacer tubes inside the fork tubes. I cut out the hurricane steering stem from the hurricane triple tree and fit in a kz steering stem. Also had to machine out the upper tree to fit the kz stem. I had to order a reg/rectifier all in one unit, and since then i have been sorting out the wiring by using the diagram posted(THANKS TO LOUDHXV)sorry if I spelled that wrong. Only concern I have on the wiring is I am using electronic ignition, resistor, solenoid, coils, and igniter out of a 79 shaft drive. But I am using a alternator and stator that was in the 75 z1 900 motor I am using. Does anyone have any input on this? From looking at the service manual wire diagram the external rectifier and regulator setup works the same as the all in one unit does, unless I missed something? I got the lighting sorted out kinda, just have to get a junction block to clean it all up. I was kinda excited to see the kz rear brake switch i have works and so does the hurricane front brake switch on the master cylinder works too! I still havent got the rear brake master cylinder and pedal sorted out yet, kinda delaying that a bit as its gonna be a pain routing around the pro pipe and foot peg. And yes the concern about it being a flexy flyer is being addressed!!!

Re: Z1 900 mono shock project UPDATE

well i rode the bike a week ago, and tore it down for sandblasting and paint. got everything finish welded and fitted, which was a chore. shes wired and ready for spring tuning. Im not to fond of the choice in paint color. Im horrible with that. here is the final build sheet.
raked and goosenecked 1000 frame
brakes, wheels, clip on bars, hand controls and mono shock suspension and frontend from a 88 honda hurricane (fork dampers removed and added 1inch for height issues, also the neck stem was cut out and replaced with a kz stem, top tree machined and a bushing added)
75 z1 900 motor
body work is (who knows)
seat is still in progress
headlight is from a harley super glide
rear brake pedal is round bar welded to a old shifter lever
electronics are from a 79 kz1000st
carbs are mikuni 28s pods, vance and hines no baffle
we call it the junk yard bike,
all in all total build cost so far $1000 or so?

I like the color! Awesome job putting the bike together so quickly too :woohoo: Would it be.possible for you to post some pics and give a little more detail on the mono shock bracing and mounts, swingarm fitting and sprockets/chain used? It will help out the other members just starting out with similar projects. Congratulations!

I like! I love those sidecovers that are full triangle to cover the open area in the frame. Nice choice.
