These bikes seem to take on a whole new look of timeless aggression in Black. Originally wanted to do mine in black and have everything Chromable chromed.

I ended up seeing the new green in the Camaro and then a youtube video of a green one and went a different direction, but Black is definitely the Color

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationToday was a good day. Without actually doing anything on my own. I received the mirrors from Taiwan suggested by otakar .

Then got a call from my paint guy telling me my body parts are finished and to come on over and pick up them up. I will post pictures of the whole bike once its complete, but here is a peek of what I picked up.

Should be receiving my fork parts and from Z1Enterprises soon and then just a matter of getting it all together. :)

Not much progress. But I am shooting to have it all back together in next two weeks. Here are couple of shots from my frame refresher. Its a half baked way to do it, but I will have the frame sand blasted and powder coated this coming summer during my engine rebuild. This will have to do in the mean time. Just got tired of looking at the rust and wanted it spiffy it up for the relay ride (mid-March is just around the corner).

Here's my cheesy makeshift paint booth. Used cotter pins for the joints so I can disassemble and store in the attic.

Thanks guys for all the encouragement. Just posting some more progress. Not much but its something. And I am hoping next next week I can have everything assembled. Last few parts on there way from Z1E (front pads, rear sprocket, clutch, throttle and speedometer cables...) Installing new seals in the front forks tonight. Still waiting for the paint cure time on these parts before I start assembly. Here is a glimpse of what I've been up to.

Below is my replacement set of forks that came with the bike when I purchased it (PO got them from eBay). I'm replacing the seals tonight. Not sure if they need them but they are off the bike and I might as well. I will take the seals from these forks and install them on the old set which I know leak. If it works out I will sell the old set. In the picture you can see the middle has been polished to a nice mirror shine. The one on the far left was the first one I did. The second one (middle) turned out much better. The one on the right is one of the old forks. That was sanded and polished a little with drill and buffer when it was still installed on the bike. I'm happy with the results of the replacement forks. All small baby steps. But the relay has been a big motivator to get this project done.

Cheers!

Joe

So I'm down to the (longest) last stretch. Have been trying to get my new tires installed. Took them to the shop Thursday, guy couldn't get to them until the following day. He found the rim locks are bad. So will have to order them Monday and it will take three days for the parts to come in. No problem, I have plenty of other tasks to do in the interim.

Forks/Triple tree installed. Polished forks and other cosmetics along with upgraded tapered bearings.

Polished the coupling and panel assemblies. New sprocket as well. My four year old son got into my work area and threw all the sprocket bolts, nuts, assorted tools and caliper out onto the grass. Lost one of the sprocket nuts. Losing a M10 - 1.25 SS nut is no great shakes compared to how long one of the bolts would have set me back. :pinch:

Working on rebuilding the master cylinder. Dismantling turned out to be a four hours of hell. Took the piston boot off and there was like a rusty grease all over it. Was there supposed to be some kind of grease beneath the boot? Everything rusted and frozen tight from that point on. Couldn't get the boot stopper (or retainer ring) off. Rusted on. First ride liquid wrench and different picks. No luck. Finally let it soak using Marvel's Mystery Oil for an hour. Got the ring free and out. Next, tried my pick on one of the holes of the snap ring. This part of the ring melted away (rust got it). Fortunately, the other hole on the clip was still good. Kept on using my picks and finally got it out. Here is what I found. The fluid in the rest of system looked like Mississippi mud water.

Readying the caliper for paint. Was full more of that river mud water. And to think I drove the bike about 1/2 a mile using those front breaks.

Refreshed/painted the gauges. You can see the glass on the Speedometer is nice and clean compared to the tach. I had to take the speedo apart to take fix some damage on the fascia. Put the ring on back perfectly until I realized I forgot the o-ring. Had to take it apart again and do over but I fudged it up the second time. Will need to replace the ring. You can see the controls still need some attention. Have new throttle cables. So that will take care of the rusty adjusters.

Head light shell repainted with new headlight bezel. Old one was rusted out too badly.

Cleaned and polished the spokes and rim. Yes, the rim is scratched up.

But here is what it looked like originally. Will be looking for new wheels but not until the next phase of the restoration.
