You can't bore a head lol, but the 6th pic down has the cylinders from a KZ750 in it. Those will be bored to 810cc and bolted into my 650 engine. I'm retaining my stock 650 head for now, albeit with GPz750 cams and APE springs, seals, and keepers.

Next winter the head will probably get a port job from Larry C, along with the biggest valves I can stuff into it, Keihin CR29 carbs, and mild Web cams, I think they make a 395. That's so I can stick in a Dyna 4000, retard module, and NOS. That'll be complemented with a new front end, and my bike will be complete as far as I'm concerned. but thats next year, I need to concentrate on all the things I need to do now, its a looong list.

Now, the good stuff. Yosh exhaust(needs painting, but good condition):

You dog, that's a nice score. My KZ650 was used by Yoshimura for making pipes. My original was totaled in my wreck and the replacement has lots of dents.
Great plans for your 650.

Best part is I got it for 63 bucks! That included the shipping from the states to Canada! She's got a couple dents but I figure its a yosh, not your run of the mill pipe, I like being unique. Thats really cool about your 650, nice to hear about bikes with some history.

So, a little progress after many months of nothing. Started sanding my engine covers to get ready to polish them. Here's a pic but its a bit crappy, this is them at 1000 grit.

I also measured up all the bearings and oil seals in the engine, gonna replace all of them. My head should be going to Larry C in a week or two for porting.

hey, looks like you are making some damn good progress. should be a sweet ride when u are done. the only thing i see wrong here or something u may need to change is ur ignition choice. I know it seems way better since its got the 2-step rev limiter, and all the fancy stuff, but i would go with the dyna s 2000 system. Thats what i use on my bike and its great, and has seperate modules you can wire in to do the things the 4000 does that arent standard for the 2000. Only reason i am saying this is i was gona buy the 4000 for my kz1000 drag/street build and contacted dyna about it since their ad says race only for the 4000. They said the coils and ignition system itself were not designed/capable of being ran for long periods of time that a bike will see for street use. There is so much power running to the coils that they will not cool and will burn up.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of that. I'll keep that in mind later on. Right now the Dyna-s thats already on her will be staying. NOS and stuff can come later on, and the S will be just fine till then.

Yeah cool build. I'll be watching.
I had a Yosh pipe way back, got tossed when I bought a Kerker.
Wish I had kept it. :(
It had a sweet sound.

The plan for this week is to finish up the engine covers, thats about all I can do right now. Then next weekend I'm going to go out to where the rolling chassis is and measure up for a fender eliminator and an oil cooler mount. Then I'm gonna bring the forks back into the city for a good cleaning and to repaint the lowers.

Thats gonna be about it until I gather the cash to order my pistons and a million things from Z1.

Very cool! Am following with great interest.

Are you keeping a running total as to what this really is costing? You know, tools, supplies, consumables, etc.

Just curious to know if I'm the only one who does that.

Best of success, :)
