Hi Danny,

Have you tried the list of vendors under the essentials? I'm going to move this thread to the chassis forum where it may get more attention.

Good Luck

If missed in another thread --

Hello Danny dean and Welcome to KZrider! Glad you're here. :cheer:

According to Kawasaki.com, the cable is part number 54005-089 which is also used on 1979 KZ200-A2.

Am assuming the Kawasaki dealership is saying this particular cable is no longer available.

Might consider replacing with a custom-made cable. Requires exact measurements of outside sheath and interior cable. Although more difficult, these measurements may be determined from scratch without having the old cable.

Don't recommend making it yourself as diy project because the cable end attachments to the interior cable are critical, especially for brakes, and often fail by allowing the cable to pull through the end piece despite our best homespun efforts to secure the ends by splaying the cable and soldering/brazing/welding, etc.

Possibly some benefit from this previous thread, if not already seen --

Good Luck with the search! :)

Danny, the part # you need is 54005-089 I called Johnny's vintage motorcycle company 330-335-7365 and they have one in stock. Costs $45.00 not exactly cheap but if you need it, you need it.B)

I searched Ebay for KZ200 and got over 100 hits, but no front cable.

There are two sellers that look like they are parting out a 200, "oncewasnew2", and "BIKE PARTS FOR YOU"
write them and ask if they have a cable.

It looks like BikeBandit doesn't have one either.

Also Motion-Pro supposedly has it under part No. 04-0206 for $22.50.

Suggest contacting then before ordering to confirm fitment for your model. :)

Saw this recent post by steell in another thread and
wondered if Z1E has been contacted about the cable. :)

www.z1enterprises.com can get you a starter clutch rebuild kit, and can probably get you any starter rebuild parts you need. They can get pretty much any KZ parts that are still available (many parts are NLA, No Longer Available).

Yeah I've known Johnny for over 20 years, he carries a ton of NOS Kawasaki parts that he buys from dealer's old stocks. It might be a few bucks more than an aftermarket cable but I have bikes that are 30 years old with the original cables still on them so there is not much question as to the quality of of OEM cables.
