you are welcome.

sounds like you have an invaluable resource at your disposal, and that is priceless. we make stuff up as we go along around here. 8^)

i've been giving some thought to using R1 parts for the next bike. i love the way the swingarm looks on that machine. someone around here did one with those parts. i checked out the roller last spring, but i don't think that it was ever finished.

speaking of the ducati tail section... there is a honda cbx here in omaha that the guy went crazy on. updated suspension, back-halved the frame for a ducati 9xx/7xx swing arm, ducati dual cans under the 9xx/7xx tail section. only thing i would have changed would have been some throatier mufflers... he used stock cans!!!

Ewwww, coolness. CBXs are one of those elusive bikes that I've always liked a lot. When I lived in LA there was a guy that came to our shop that had one that had inverted gixxer suspension on it, a 600 Hurricane upper fairing, 3 into ones with Yosh cans, painted a very tasteful Honda red/white/blue (mostly white). The guy was a decent guy, but an actor who stumbled onto the bike and had NO IDEA how cool his bike was.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean about the R1 stuff; plus it seems like the Yamaha stuff goes cheaper than a lot of other stuff out there...which is cool in the case of the R1. Also, the R1 forks "look" longer to me...and you know that's a plus when going onto the older stuff for clearence reasons. I'm putting FZR1000 suspension stuff on my Z1R...but it's '92 stuff and not the (vastly superior) R1 stuff...still I do have a set of those bitchin' mono-block brakes that will bolt on with it. Looking forward to that project. I have a 1260 motor that is 'done' up to the head...trying to go GPz/J on that...we'll see.

Last note: I was at Brian's shop yesterday and he said he'd be stoked to have you guys down for his 'open house' and he's going to get me the date tomorrow. I'm telling you b/c there is a bonus: the KU cheerleaders are going to be at the open-house:woohoo:

Talk to you soon,
-KR

Bad Kaw, that's one hell of a nice project you've got going there! Waiting to see the finished bike.
How much shorter than stock are your forks, and how much did the Ohlins shocks raise the rear? Also, how much longer than stock is your swingarm? At the moment mine is about 2" shorter up front and a little under 2" higher in the rear with a stock length swingarm. Just looking for some specs to go along with your actual seat of the pants experience with these mods. Thanks.

Valid questions; I'm a college professor so this time of year we "do the loop" and we're currently at grandma's house. So, I'll get some measurements a.s.a.p.

The ZX9 forks are longer than the ZX7 forks by just a little less than 3"...I think 2.75"...and that little bit is very significant. I had the 7 forks on at first and the ground clearnence sucked, so I was designing some 'gull wing' triples and in the process of taking measurements off the 9 forks that I had I stumbled on the painfully obvious difference in length between the forks and I thought *duh* and installed the 9 forks. Since I've still got the 7s at home I'll do a bunch of measuring and see what I come up with.

BTW: I think 12R forks look great!

I'll get to putting some numbers up as soon as I can. Thanks for the compliments! It's good to be in a place where I'm not alone:lol:

I'm sure these projects will be a great help to all future projects. This info that we gather, together as a group should save a lot of grief for others. Keep up the great pics.
I'm not 100% committed to the zx12 forks yet. So if the length of the zx9's is significant(what year?), I will go that route. One thing that I’ve learned is that the zzr1200 front wheel has a cable driven Speedo. This makes it a perfect mate for our Speedo’s. I’ve come up with some #'s and it looks like it(including brake disks) will mate up to the zx12 forks and calipers(zx12 caliper would just need a shim at fork bolts). How did you solve the Speedo issue with the zx9 rim.
2002 zx12 are 28 3/4" long top to axle center.Rotors are 320mm.

Not duckin' ya, just busy with work at the moment. I'll try to have those measurements later today. The solution to the speedo-drive problem is that I don't run a speedo; the plan is to get one of those after-market jobbies...but not very excited as the ones that have caught my eye are stupid money...for a poor-broke country college teacher.;)
The ZX9R forks are the earlier forks b/c the later model ZX9R forks are conventional. I think the years were +/- around the '94 - '96 era (maybe up to '98?...I can't remember at the moment) ...I can check that later, too. Anyway, they're longer than the ZX7Rs by almost 3". And 3" is HUGE...just ask my wife.:woohoo:

you could always use the bicyle speedo( if you get the right one they read up to 300KPH), but it doesnt have the rev counter
Have you had a look at this site? If you are into streetfighters you may like it - streetfighters.com.au

Dave,
"Where do you get your user name?" ...just kidding:lol:

The speedo: man, after looking (for most of the day...my wife said to tell you 'thanks' ;) ) at that last 'fighter site I reeeeeally got locked onto that GP style dash unit. I'll go ahead and pony up for that one, or I'll get my friend with the dealership to see if he can set up an account with them (hence a bit of a break, no?:( ) and try to get it going on before summer.

The Australian 'fighter site...thanks again:pinch: ...it's almost 1:00am and I'm just getting going on that one ... I'm never gonna get any sleep.
