Question:
I have a full set of 50 year crankshaft bolts that I can use to put it back together.  Kinda wondering how good they are seeing how I broke one and the other case has a broken one in it that's going have to be removed.  I'm thinking a set of APE crankshaft studs with the support plate and some cylinder studs might be a good idea at this point.  I'm going to send the crank and cases to Bill Bune anyway to have the cases bead blasted and the crank looked over and maybe welded, might as well have him do the studs while he has it.
I just put together a 1200 engine with big valve head/.425"cams/ported w VM33 smoothbores and I used the stock bolts/cylinder studs. Most times these engines have only ever been apart once, some never, so the bolts are usually OK to reuse.

The APE parts were developed for drag/road racing where you would tear down once or twice a year (case studs)  A 10.5:1 street piston does not need to be clamped down with massive force so I don't think the investment is warranted. If you were doing a Turbo build that would be a different story on the cylinder studs/nuts.

You can easily fabricate the crank support plate with a $4 piece of CR flat bar. You can get the crank welded/trued for reasonable money if they don't disassemble it. This is assuming that the parts your working with are not trashed. I started off with cases that had never been split and a virgin crank that was in phase.
