Hi everyone. Well, I'm 17, been riding quads for a few years, and recently acquired a KZ750-G1. It's dusty, ugly, and rusty.... I'm hooked. As it sits it doesn't run and I'm rather mechanically inclined so I plan on working on it myself with a little advice. I'm not sure where to start, I checked for spark, but didn't see anything when I kicked it over, so I'm guessing that the ignition needs some work, but what else should I clean/adjust/replace since its been sitting in a shed for 5+ years? I know its capable of running since my grandpa had it running (roughly) a few years ago and I appreciate any help I can get. I'll try to post pics tomorrow though there isn't much to look at. Thanks in advance!


Edit: My bike is a twin 750t LTD. Don't know if that makes a difference or helps any, but I just thought I'd let you know.

I know a little about the KZ750G :)

There is a grease zerk on the swingarm pivot, grease it with a grease gun.

Remove the rear brake pedal and clean and lube the pivot.

Flush the front brake system with new fluid.

Join the rest of us in fighting over every KZ440 timing advancer, pick up, and ignitor on eBay so you can covert it to electronic ignition.

Take the carbs off, disassemble them, then soak the metal parts in a gallon can of carb cleaner for a couple of days.

Pray that you don't need carb kits, I have been unable to find any for the G, and the 76-79 B model carb kits don't work on the G.

The G has mag wheels, but they are not tubeless wheels, they require a tube.

If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Oh yeah, get a manual, 76-79 will generally work, and they are easier to find.

There's a downloadable version listed in a thread here somewhere.

Thanks a ton. Sounds like some good places to get started... If they don't make kits for the carb can't you just order new carbs? As for the igntion, I didn't see anything on ebay, so I may look around locally.

Batteries for the camera are charging now, I'll have a pic up in a few minutes.

Fixed your pics, maximum size is 550 wide.

Kawasaki does not sell new carbs, and they would probably cost as much as two more KZ750G's if they did, but there are aftermarket Mikunis that will work, for $400-$500 :woohoo:

76-79 carbs will bolt on and work, 82-83 750 twin carbs will not work on the 76-80 750 twins.

I put a 79 chrome rear fender on one of my G's because I thought the G tail looked weird :)

Here is an old pic before I added the rear fender and replaced the exhaust.
79 front fender also, I need to find another G fender.

Check out this 750B, it has aftermarket Mikuni carbs and Works shocks. It belongs to a member in Ohio that no longer posts here.

Cool, another 750 twin! Get that bike out of the mud. There are several bikes in the gallery photos that are identical or at least real close to yours.
Is that a small chunk of windshield I see?:side: Looks like Gramps boogered up one of the passenger pegs too. I've got a spare if you need it. Welcome, we need some young blood in here!

doesnt blood only last about 8 days? (keeps getting replaced by new stuff as it dies):P ok, enough thread jackin for now:laugh:

Yeah, that was part of a windshield. It had a REALLY nice one on it but the kids down our block took it out with a slingshot years ago (I would have taken it off anyways). Oh, and I did happen to get the bike out of the mud, its on a nice solid concrete surface :)...

Okay, current status....

I drained all the gas out of the tank. The gas was NASTY! It was nearly orange and everything is gummed up. I tried to pull the carbs off and now they're hanging by the throttle cables until I can get some tools. It would have been easy to disconnect the cables but one of the carbs is siezed up and won't open.... When I drained the tank I pulled off the little fuel selector valve (not sure of the name of it) and there was what I think is the remnants of a 30 year old o-ring and a small filter... the filter was so old that it broke off, and what I think is the o-ring is now washed away. I guess my question is, where can I get these parts and what's the best way to clean all of the gunk out of the tank?? I'll have pics shortly...
