I am looking to make it a drag bike and want to know ...what is the best yearand modle as far as style because it will be a show bike as well. thank you all for the info.
i kinda want this look
i figure the main 1970s bikes were the 1973-75 Z1, the 1977 -78 KZ1000A (standard road model) and the 1977-80 KZ1000B (LTD model).
the cosmetic differences between them are subtle but real...in the tank, seat, front fender, wheels, rear tire size, disc/drum/single/dual brakes..... the Z1 had the sleekest look (nice brit bike cafe racer), the KZ1000A was a bit chunkier, and the KZ1000B was the chunkiest.
your pic looks like a 1977 -80 KZ1000B and i think its the best for the drag bike look...fat tank, chunky front fender, mag wheels, 16 inch rear tire, dual front discs. the corbin gunfighter seat goes well with that tank.
i bought a 1979 kz1000B cause i liked the dragbike look, but i didn't realize that a lot of those bikes have lowered suspension (and often an extended swingarm), which i don't really want to do for fear of compromising the safety/handling with my wife on the back.
a lot of the cosmetic parts are interchangeable on the Z1, KZ1000A and KZ1000B, so you can turn one into the other by shopping ebay.
good luck with the project
FYI, here's a Z1 drag bike for comparison
