Steve, Worked on my Starter Clutch assembly today. Prepped everything and installed starter clutch w/allen head bolts to generator/rotor. Used Red Loctite and torqued to 27 fl.-lbs. as per FSM.

Question, on the installation of the clutch starter assembly, the FSM makes reference to the Thrust Washer to be mounted with it's chamfered side facing inward. If you look at the washer, it appears that one side is more rounded and is tapered towards the center of the opening or hole that slides over the crankshaft.

Is this rounded side of the washer, the chamfered side ?

It would make sense, since the flat side of the washer has more of a wider flatter mating surface that would mate up to the needle bearing.

Also, Does the end of the crankshaft need to be really polished well before mounting the rotor ?

Steve, Completed the starter/clutch and rotor assembly over the last couple of days. Tested Today and bike started without making any of the clutch slipping/disengage sounds as it was making before. Bike much quieter ! So now it appears to be acting as it should though I still think that maybe the Starter itself might be slipping or skipping a little when hitting the starter button if that's possible?

Is there to Test the starter itself or can it be rebuilt if internally there might be a electrical problem ? I'm assuming you would have to open up the starter and inspect?

Good job. B) Have you read the other starter thread? That was MURDER.
It shouldn't skip. You can take the starter out on these engines. You will have to take off the sprocket cover so you can get the wire off.

Steve, Not hard to remove starter, did before. Tested it prior to make sure it would spin with current supplied and it did. I'll read the FSM and see how difficult it is to open it up and check out which I think are the brushes ?

Also, Steve I just posted another question on the Carburetor Forum about oil in the fuel ? It feels like the fuel from the carbs. might have a little oil in it ? Maybe you could take a look at my question and I'll read the other starter thread to see if I could offer any help too.

Thanks Again !!!
