I have an 82 1000 ltd with a different motor than original. Previous owner keeps saying mine is a j model motor. It doesnt have the j carbs according to the book i have. How can i tell?

Yep...that's a J model motor. You can tell by the head. Don't know about which carbs are stock on your particular model of bike but they look right. But that is definitely a j motor.
1980 LTD (changed over the years), 1979 LTD (being rebuilt), 1977 KZ turbo and various KZ's in various states of build. KLX110

Is the j model motor better? What others are there and should it have come stock on my 82 ltd? This is my first kawi. It was a true basket case. I was looking for air cooled chain drive to make a bobber out of. Once I got all the pieces together it looked so good i couldnt bring myself to cut on the frame. And after I got it on the road I was totally surprised how well it handled Do have another motor (in pieces) w a busted timing chain if I decide to still do the bobber

Looks great and the extra HP sounds fun. How are you digging the drag bars? I really like superbike bars but did order some drags to try out on my current project. Enjoy the new HP!
