Basically did just that. Purge and removed them last night.
The sintered pads removed were close anyhow. Surprising as I didn't ride it that much. But without an odometer it's hard to tell...
Looking seriously at the Acewell 3950 with a ACE-S10 to replace the speedometer cable.
Been waiting for a part like this to go with an all digital display. Products of this nature 8 years ago were beyond my means, and logic. This is attainable.
Have to sell it to the wife again as a safety issue.
Plus, CHP is out like mad lately and I don't want to get caught with my pants down. The friggen hand held laser they are using is diabolical. They can be quite a way from you and be absolutely sure they are targeting one vehicle in a group.
So on the list at this point:
1) Ride.
2) Work with Derek to do some laden and un laden measurements of the suspension.
3) Order me some new shocks and adjust the front as needed.
4) Purchase the instrument package that makes sense for the bike. Fit.
5) Fix the paint and add the blue and white stripes.
6) Attach some ZRX passenger pegs so I can support the pipe from a stout platform.
#6 may move higher on the list depending on what happens with the current pipe hanger. At the moment the pipe seems stable. No baffle rattle and slipping at the collector connection. I had just changed some items that seemed to help just before breaking the case. Nice to see the R&D progress improved things. But it's far from perfect.

08 Sep 2008 19:46If I had $1200 to spare, I'd get Ohlins shocks, and if I had an additional $5000 to spend, I'd get Ohlins forks also.
If I had that much extra money I would by a new bike!

newbie question. has anyone ever put like high jacker air shocks from a car on a bike? are they too tall or what?? I saw some monroe shocks that I would like to put on my rat bobber just because they would look cool

External reservoir shocks from Works cost just about double the average selling price of ZRX shocks on eBay. "But" the Works shocks are set up for your bike, your weight, and your riding style. And, if you can do without the external reservoir, Works shocks (set up for you) can be bought for around $100 more than used ZRX shocks.

My bad Mcdroid, I didn't know the measurements of stock GPZ shocks, but the ZRX shocks measured out the same as what was on it, or real close (measured unsprung). As far as the tail being to high, to me, mine looks fine, and with a rider, the bike levels out. Since I was trying to stay with the ELR look which ran pigglybacks, my first choice would have been a set off an ELR, but those are nearly impossible to find, and Olins cost more (piggybacks) than ZRX shocks off e-bay. (budget considerations!) To each his own, that's what makes everyones bike unique and there own.

Ya,on my bike(77 KZ1000) they did increase the ride height,by about an inch.
They're coming off though(too tall for me).
And before you ask, yes, they're spoken for.

They usually sell for near $300 a pair on eBay, so hope he never looks there
