Im a bigger guy and these 30 + year old shocks are trash. I know they are pretty bad to begin with. Not trying to burn corners but will a ZRX shock fit up ? I had one and they looked close but never measured to see... Or at least anyone know if someone still makes reproduction factory ones. Someone removed the factory air shocks from mine and just put KZ900/1000 rear shocks on it.

I've done a few suspension swaps. I can tell you first hand to research, research, and do more research before handing over cash for the parts.

I've been scoping this out for a while. I purposefully went with the 18" rims to maintain ride hight, this keeps me from having to Mickey mouse a suspension riser solution and keep the set of ZRX rear shocks I bought for it. Also the front fork width is just about dead nuts the same width as the Gixxr forks, so the front wheel should clear. The stock width for these rims is rear 150/70 (4") and front 110/80. If I have to change the rear swing arm, I think I'd go with a ZRX one.

Wow great deal on a great bike. Here is my 82 GPz750R1, turned it into an ELR clone. Used the swingarm and shocks off a 1999 ZRX1100. Swapped a warmed up 82 GPz1100 engine into it also. The thing is an absolute blast to ride. Handles like the 750 but has over 100 HP, weighs 420 pounds and is wicked fast. If you got any ?? let me know.

hard to go much over a 140/150 in the stock arm.
zrx shocks like on the black and gold bike will raise the ass end.
the front forks can be dropped through the tree's to lower it.
but the right way would be to shorten the fork tubes.

Will the ZRX 1100, KYB rear shocks fit the 1982 GPZ 750 wit no modifications?

A lot of work. I wanted the engine to sit as low as possible so I could do regular maintenance so I cut the bottom tubes of the frame and got the engine in really low. I welded the frame tubes back together with tubing slugs inside the tubes for strength. I can remove the top end without any problems. I had to make motor mount tabs and re-design the Kerker pipe to get it to work with the ZRX swingarm. There are a bunch of other small things I had to take care of. I installed a 1175 Wiseco piston kit in it along with WEB cams, ported head and the Mikuni RS36 carbs. I wanted it lighter than the GPZ750 so I really put it on a diet. It weighs in now with full fuel at 420 pounds.
It is a beast, it will rip you arms off when you get on it hard. If I am going to die on a bike this is probably the one that will kill me. It is so fast and smooth that before you know it your at 120 mph and only at 1/4 throttle. It requires a lot of discipline to operate. It handles better than the GPZ750 probably due to the shocks, stiffer swingarm and the lighter weight. Very addicting bike to ride. I give modern sport bikes fits.

Not to hijack the thread, but can anyone tell me what shox these are? Would they bolt on to a 1980 kz750h?

Those are EBay shocks. A number of overseas vendors sell those. Just search on EBay for "ZRX Shocks" or "Cafe Racer Shocks" and they'll come up under different lengths and mount types.

I looked for info online and what I could find was that with gas reservoir shocks, orientation doesn't matter. Very open to clarifications here.
