Wow..thanx Guys, I really get the shivers when reading you comments. Even if you build the bike for your own satisfaction it really feels good to get nice feedback.

Here´s an approx build cost. Wont sum it up cause I dont want to know the total:)

Old barn bike (KZ750-82) $ 700
Wheels e-bay (FZR 1100/YZR 1000) $ 500
Engine rebuild (parts and some labour) $ 1000
Swing arm YZR -08 $ 400
Front end FZR 1100 -91 $ 300
Acewell speedo and othe small stuff $ 300
Paint, tail, other small parts $ 500
Total: $ 3700

Shit, I knew I had to sum it up. You can get a really nice bike for that kind of money :)
But you really do this for your own, dont calculate to get your money back.

I bought some tools on the way. Glass blaster cabinett, a drill press and some other goodies...but that goes on a different account :) (A total of $ 900)
Will sell some various stuff and might get about $ 300 from the old bike.

Took me about 6-7 months to do the build. About 10-20 hours per week. I loved every minute of it.

The most important thing is to have enough time, dont do this if you need it to work in a month or two. Do one thing at a time. And remeber it´s your bike so build it like you want not how other people tell you to do.

You can see cracks in the tank, thats last years paint job with a crappy base coat that cracked this winter. This might give me tha chanse to change the color of the bike again :)

Thanx for your support Guys,
Arnold

In my build (piston kit, head/valve work, camshafts and degreeing and tire circumferences), I gave up top end speed for umphka (acceleration)...

As depicted in the gear calc program and in comparing to riding mph & rpm, pretty much dead on...

NOTE: Acewell tach +/-200rpm, mph +/-2mph... Fairly accurate in any system...

Note 2: I also went 2 up on the rear sprocket...
Gear ration went from 2.33 to 2.46

5th gear, difference of 20... 70mph = 5000rpm
4th gear, difference of 15... 70mph = 5500rpm

@ 106 miles on the nose I hit reserve...
1978 KZ1000-A1 tank.... 4.4 gallon but not 100% sure.
~ 31 miles per gallon if calculating 1 gallon reserve...

Just the way it works!;)

Used the backwheel for the pickup.

what are u going to do for throttle cables?
i have thought about switching to a modern switch set, but never bothered to pursue the throttle cable dilema.
