I bought an Acewell gauge, the same one you have wired to yours.

You said it was easy to wire to your bike, but I am a little confused on the wiring...

Looking at the wiring guide Acewell sent, they have a pretty simple setup:

www.acewell.co.uk/manuals/ACE-2853-A-Wiring.pdf

But where they have one wire for a turn signal indicator, for example, my bike's wiring diagram shows 2 wires for each turn signal indicator. What's up with that?

I also am not completely sure which wires from my bike I need to use to hook up to the gauge's ground, clock power, switch key, fuel, etc., again, cuz a lot of those wires on my diagram show 2 wires leading to the hookup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I just wired my acewell up but i did not use indicators, i also rewired my bike from scratch. I'll bet the single wire for each indicator splices into the positive for each respective indicator. Think of them as sensor wires as the clock is already grounded & with each flash they get a pulse to light your Acewell gauge

Check your bikes wiring diagram at the back of the manual before cutting wires
The ground can go to the frame or maybe splice into a black wire but check the gnd colour 1st
Clock power is a constant live so you could wire direct to the battery (or look at diagram & use a wire)
Do your lights come on with your ignition? If so the switch key live could wire to that?
Fuel, don't know, i dont have a gauge so i didnt use it.

You don't need any resistors for the ignition to work properly. the resistors are for Noise suppression. So if you have an electrical device, such as your Acewell tach that is effected, then add the resistor plugs. But only if you have no other resistor in the secondary circuit/ plug wire and cap.

So, I've got too many electrical gizmos on my bike for the charging syetm to keep up.

I've got a new combination Reg/Rec from Z1E, and the early three phase alternator.

What I'm looking for is suggestions. I dont want to delete the things I have added. I guess I can get LED turn signals and tail light. Any other ideas? I guess the glaring thing is the Dyna-S. Do the Dyna coils suck juice too, or is it just the ignition unit? I can go to a Kawi ignition I suppose. I can't see the Acewell pulling down much juice, and the O2 sensor unit only pulls down like 15W during normal operation.

I'm going to check out the resistances and everything on Thursday ngiht, thats the next time I can get at the bike. I just have a regular multimeter. One thing I realized is that my engine ground may not be the greatest since I painted the engine. So I'll sort that, and then check resistances, and then see if the issue goes away.

I'm not a dummy when it comes to electrical stuff, so feel free to get very technical. I'm going to go through my harness and check for any leaks, everything is in pretty good shape wiring-wise though. So in my mind its either a problem with a component or a problem with too much load.

Its already been suggested over on kz650.info that my reg/rec might not be up to the job. Its a Ricks Electrical unit I got from Z1E.

I am getting a acewell speedo/tach and the tach lead goes off the plug wire. I know I can get the copper plug wire or the graphite one that does not flow as well. I just don't want to.mess up the speedo or tach with to much magnetic interference.

So you love pictures, here's a few of what's happened since I bought it. New indicators, painted bits and pieces (engine covers were badly scratched), new taillight, homemade bracket (that holds indicators and licenseplate too). Lowered the front a bit, I'm currently wondering which way to go on the fender, to cut it or buy another one, suggestions?
The speedo and tacho is in bad shape, so I might go with an Acewell combined speedo and tacho. I'll probably be changing the tyres to Bridgestone BT45, any good or bad experiences?

As you see there's no header on it atm, It had a 4-1 mounted when I bought it, with that 90s-looking Sebring-muffler in the first picture. I wanna get something a bit more simple, something like a cone-type, problem is the 4-1 is 55 mm, and I can't find any mufflers with an inlet that big, can anyone help?

Ride safe.

Awesome advice, thanks!

Question about replacing the gauge cluster. What should I do about the odometer? Buying a new set of gauges would mean I'd be starting back at zero? It looks like some of the after market ones are adjustable up until a certain distance (30 km for some of Acewell's products).

Also, should I go with clip-on handlebars or clubman handle bars? I'm leaning toward clip-on unless there is a reason not to.

hi and welcome! my names chris and im fairly new here also, as for your headlight your gonna wanna buy or fabricate brackets that are called fork ears, they clamp onto the fork legs and allow you to use sidemount buckets of different diameters. just beware that the factory bucket houses alot of wiring that will need redone if you change it out. for the seat use metal or fiberglass to mold something to your specs. or you can buy a corbin gunfighter that has a cafe' profile but is kinda in between, i have two seats for sale soon if you just want a factory style, one is oem and the other is mustang. plenty of options here but get creative. third you have tons of room to play on instrumentation, from switching around what ya got to an aftermarket. two companies that come to mind for affordable and good looking and well functioning options is koso and acewell, i have used both along with veypor, mychron, and a few others. check out motogadget also they make a guage called the scope thats the size of a money clip. super slick although pricy. and exhaust is gonna call for a change of jetting and your main options are really kirker, vance and hines, maybe a few more unless you want to get custom. im sure someone else can chime in. also theres a member intro thread, introduce yourself there and post some pics of your new ride. have fun and i hope this helps, chris

Well it's been a busy weekend with the bike. Got all my parts in and installed!

Here she is with the tail shortened and my seat pan on.

Renthal aluminum drop bars, Acewell 2853 gauge, DRC LED flasher and tail light.

I love the Acewell gauge, cleaned up the bike a lot.

I also got 17.5 pilot & 112.5 main jets installed. Just needs a bit of tuning and she should run great. Next step is zx-6r fork swap and wheels, stay tuned!
