03 Sep 2010 10:51
hey all, building a 75 kz900 drag bike with a 1400 kit, back cut gears, air shifter, extended swing arm, drag tire. want to run low 9's. whats a good combo on front and rear sprockets as far as teeth numbers go? what rpm would u set ur low launch at? what about upper rev limit? shift rpm? i know ive asked for everything short of u comin over and helping build it(if ur in kc mo area come on!) but any experience will help. this is first time out on 2 wheels at the drags. thanks all

if your using the kz trans then i'd use something like 16 front 39 rear if your using a gpz trans then you might try 15 or 16 front around 47 rear just because of gearing differences between the 2 tranny's also it depends on what tire your using as well.

A couple of questions- KZ900 tranny or? Head and cams you plan to use ? Weight of you & bike?
To run low 9's on a small tire bike you're going to need a good cylinder head and cams combo as well working on gearing. It's been a long time since I ran a small tire bike but used 16-38 in a 1394cc. with Cam Motion Z9/Z10 cams/KZ head that flowed 104 cfm. Went 9:10 to 9:25 all day at +- 600 lbs.total weight.
Set 2 step was at around 7000 and shifted at 10250. Limiter usually around 11250 and used good valve springs.
