two nuts on valve stem, placement?

I'm putting new tubes and tires on my 77 KZ1000. The new tubes came with T4 style valve stems with two nuts. Should one of the nuts be installed inside between the tube and rim,or should they both be outside where you can see them "double nutted" Does it even matter?

Yea you got it right, 1- inside, 1- out. Holds the stem in place other wise you could tighten the outside one to much and rupture the tube.

Hmmmm,

I thought the little convex metal washer went inside and the 2 nuts outside with the top nut keeping the lower nut from backing out over time...

I guess my setup might be wrong.....

Thanks. I'm on a budget and can't afford to ruin a new tube.

Washer on stem, then 1-nut. Then trough rim, 1-nut on the out side. Inner nut should be snug against washer but don't reef on it.
But I have seen the washer put on the outside or inside or rim between the 2 nuts.
Or maybe I'm going nuts?

Agree, washer nut (finger tight) thru wheel then nut. quick tip, leave external nut slack, (just making contact)or leave out.outside nut keeps area clean and makes initial filling easier, being loose or absent allows a quick visual check for tire/tube spinning on wheel. a canted valve stem could warn you prior to ripping tube. g
