Question about fork seal backup washer

Hi all,
I am in the midst of replacing the fork seals on my '81 GPZ1100 and have come to a screeching halt because i dont know which set of directions i should follow. in the mother Kaw repair manual, it shows that the backup washer goes under the fork seal. In the direction booklet i have from the Leak Proof seals it says and shows the washer sitting on top of the seal (between the seal and circlip). personally i think it makes more sense to place it on top of the seal but i wanted some opinions as i really dont want to do this multiple times. - BTW, when i disassembled the forks, the washer was originally under the seal. thanks for the help as always.
I started out with nothing, and still have most of it...

Kawasaki parts diagram shows the washer goes under the seal. That does seem rather odd, but seems to be correct.

The washer does go under the seal. I have never had any long term luck with the "Leak Proof" seals. They always seem to leak in no time. I always try to use OEM seals.

I put leak proof seals in my 82 GPZ1100 and they were not in fact "leak proof". Mine leaked within a couple days. Factory seal are definately the way to go.
