New coil - no spark

I did a bit of a search but didn't find any thing to help me...
I took my Z750E in to get it's inspection for is WOF so then I can get it registered and legally on the road - so close! More on that later.
When I rode it in it was running fine. When I collected it at 5 I could tell straight away it was only running on 2 cylinders! I only live 5 minutes away so I limped home on my now Z375 and did a few checks. The left coil for 2&3 was not producing a spark. I did a switch around of the leads so I know it's not the pick up coils. I still had the old coils & I know one of them was not so bad (not all bloated like the other one) So I checked that & got a spark so that's on the bike now. I can get another generic coil for about $80 so not the end of the world but there must be an underlying reason why this would happen. What could be a possible cause of a coil failure?

And for my WOF I needed to attach the spring from the rear brake light switch to the pedal, done.
Need passenger foot pegs. My old ones were a mis match. I'm gonna use the ones of my 305, I just need to get some more thread cut in them then cut the threaded part down to fit. easy
One of my front brake lines has a small cut in the rubber. I know I should replace all of them but I'll do the two going down to the front calipers for a start. spendy but easy enough.
Not bad for a 35 year old bike!

Common reasons for coil failure-
Old age
Made in China
Manufacturing boo boo. (Warranty?)

Congratulation for being so close.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationOver charging can kill coils. Steer clear of "generic" coils. I'd rather have used OEM coils than ones MADE IN CHINA.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThose have been a big name in HP. I haven't heard anything bad about them. I have used coils up the gaszoo. They worked good but I still had that phantom miss. I was ready to bight the bullet and buy new Dyna coils but found some used no one was bidding on. I waited until the last few minutes, set my highest bid, another guy was bidding .50 and I was $1 and won them. I may be a cheap FKR but he over cheaped me and lost the game.

I recently picked up a pair of Accel coils and one was DOA. Reading through the documentation, they are MADE IN CHINA. :(

HEAT. If the coil's Ohm resistance is too low for the system, it will cook it. Some coils require an external ballast resistor to limit current (and heat).

My 1100 had Chinese coils on it when I got it, non running, and one of the coils had ONE dead output. I put OEM used coils on it and great ever since.
