Unless you are experiencing a problem, it's generally best to stick with the factory recommended heat range. Regular NGK plugs are high quality and reasonably priced. Again, unless you have a special need, esoteric plugs (platinum, iridum, silver, et cetera) are mostly a waste of $$$$$.
A better question might be, what is the best oil and chain lube?

Stock sparkplugs in the bigger older 4's is NGK B8ES or Denso W24-ESU's gapped 0.028 to 0.032 diameter.
Other brands like Accell,Bosch and maybe Autolite can be used. I'd stay away from Champion sparkplugs(bad personal experiance).
Put a dab of the silver anti-seize on a few threads to insure easy removal in the future.Avoid removing a hot sparkplug if possible to lessen the chance of thread damage.

I've been using Nippondenso ND W22ES-U plugs in my KZ650C1 and it seems to like them. Ed

The twins use the really hot plugs which is the B6ES or the W20ESU. The fours usually run the colder B8ES or the W24ESU because they get a lot hotter especially the inner cylinders. I know some people run the slightly colder B7ES in their twins for highway running to keep it cooler compared to the stock B6ES.
