Put a stickey note on the tach that says "Kick Me" you know like the one you used to put on your buddy when you went clubbing.

You could use a rear brake switch, cheap and fairly durable.

Already been looking into that one.Spent a few minutes with mine.
They're not a completely sealed switch though, and being down low,I'd have to wonder how it would hold to road-schmag and rain, over time?
Thanks for that though!

Excuse me if I am wrong, but you said you were on the bike with it running and the kickstand down at the same time even if unknowingly. Shouldn't you set it up to kill the engine when in gear with the stand down? That way if it is not completely up you would be aware of it. Just a thought
And that's all I need, because I'm never on the bike with it running and the kickstand down at the same time.

Normally this "mistake" is not all that dangerous and it's figured the stand is down pretty quickly so I'd just be careful and take it as another thing to think about before riding away. A worse problem is having the spring break during a ride. I've had this happen where you're just riding along happy and carefree, take the next left turn and get a nice "surprise".
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Hey Sandy,
Glad you & the wife are good to go... no serious injuries!
When I read this one easy way came to mind.... Use a rear brake light "Pull" switch where the terminals for alarm kickstand down status are connected to your horn...
You could also terminate to a lamp, blinking LED, second sound device such as a freakin air horn....
Just a thought, should be easy to do....

Thanks Dave,no...no injuries at all, thank the good guy above.
I THINK I understand that diagram,but...(go with me on this one)what about when I have the bike parked(kick-stand down),and I need to key the ignition for whatever reason?
That's going to sound the horn, correct?
I DO like that idea though.
And kawickrice...the kick-stand was ALREADY down when I pulled out of the rest area. The spring is good also,so I can rule that out.It was totally my fault for not making SURE the stand was up before we pulled away, but hey...good point.
And Don...YOU ROCK BUDDY!!
Even the Warden howled at that!
And hey...what KZ models DID have a kick-stand switch,if any?
I seem to remember one model having the switch...KZ1300 maybe?

You can alwys put in a secondary switch on the handle bars for disabling the horn or this added switch in this case....
Or use logic gate control for turh table type operations... If this is active & this is active then allow horn to operate.... All in all, can it be done, well yes or just put in stronger kick stand springs or a secondary lock down lasp of sorts and ride like a bandshee...

Re: Need to install a kick-stand switch

Hmmmm..just had an even BETTER idea...
It's obviously rider fault,as there is no problem with the kick-stand OR the spring,right...so what about wiring up my seat with power from the coils,to ZAP my ass if the kickstand is down, with the engine running!
Seriously...
My biggest issue is forgetting to put the stand up before taking off,and I never START the bike until it's in the upright position(with me on it),and I'm ready to pull away.
So I need the "Reminder" when I go to start the bike, once I/We are on it and ready to go.
