Will these coils melt my wiring?

I picked up my new bike yesterday ('79 KZ1000ST) and once I got it home I switched out the plugs and then was not getting spark on 1 & 4. Spent hours trying to get spark out of the cracked coil as I knew it had been firing and occasionally it would give me spark. Gave up and was going to order some dyna's from Z1E (still am) but as I want to get my bike inspected before my temporary permit runs out today I decided to try my Z1 coils on it.

They dont fit the bolt holes but I got spark when I hooked them up so I just tightened the back bolt on either one and started it up. It runs nicely, much better than with the cracked stock coils. I just want to make sure that running it with these coils wont fry the electrical system as I'd rather not start on fire/replace the harness

Thanks!

Thanks again!

As long as the coils you're using now are not lower in resistance(OHMS)than what you had, I see no problem.

You can go up in resistance with a slight loss of spark power but should not go down as this could heat up the coils and possibly cause them to fail.

To check the resistance, get a multimeter, set it on OHMS times 1 (OHMS X 1), put the black and red leads together, zero the pointer(if it's analog)and then read across the primary(small wire) side of the coil with a black lead on one side and the red on the other(does not matter which goes to where).

If the coil has resistance the meter will indicate on the scale(if analog)or on the digital display the amount of OHMS it has.
