Pic Request - Wiring under Tank
23 Apr 2008 02:59
I'm trying to clean up the 30 year old wiring mess from the PO and I'm having issues with the big group of wires running under the tank. Does anyone have a pic of the route that they should be taking? Do they go under the coils? Above? etc.
I tried a few different ways but the tank still won't go on correctly, its up on the left side.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, that's the one. Perfect pic, thanks a lot. Really appreciate it.
The PO has it different in that it doesn't go in between the tubes under the tank. I'll have to figure something out.

As you can see from Bluemeanie's pic, the OEM cable came with a combination of rubber boots/tubes and or taped protection around harness.
I was accessing my harness often because of electrical problems and the taping and untaping was becomeing a drag. So, I went for a flexible plastic protector closed with a few black tie-wraps and secured with a few more black tie-wraps. It comes in avariety of sizes and is cheap at my local Canadian Tire.
I was just working under the tank so this is what mine looks like today.
Let's try the pics again.

On my 78 KZ650, One of the wire bundles runs on the left side and the other runs on the right side. Both route underneath the tank mount tang thingies. Don't know if that is the stock manner of routing them. However, I do not have any problems with the routing of these two bundles the way they are.

Thanks guys, even though I would like to run it like Blue has it in his pic, the PO must have done some work there and now it routes below the frame tubes. I'm not diving into that mess of wires so I'll have to see how I can best route them the way they are. I'll look into that protector you mentioned Bill, looks neat.
Thanks
