coil wires switched?
17 Oct 2007 18:42
Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I have an issue with a 1984 zn1100b (shaft drive). i replaced the head gasket on the bike, with close attention being paid to cam timing so im sure thats correct, but the bike doesnt even sputter when cranking. occasionally after cranking the engine over it will backfire out of the exhaust LOUD! im thinking i might have coil wires reversed. 1-4 green/red, 2-3 black/red is the way i have it connected now. does anyone know if this wiring is correct or not? my manual goes up to 83 1100 and says green is on left (1-4). i've checked spark and compression and all is good on that end. Thanks in advance, and i promise to make some posts now. if i left anything out feel free to ask

Welcome to the madhouse brokenrod.
Dont know what the wiring set up should be but you have nothing to lose by switching the black and green, and pushing the start button.
Worst that can happen is that it still wont start and in the meantime someone may just come along who knows the correct answer.
Good luck
