I'm getting ready to re-wire my switches. I decided to use late model gsxr/tl/busa switches as I like the way they look. I'm not the most electrical minded guy so I need some help deciding what wires to splice together.

I'm planning to cut the connectors off the original CSR switches and wire the new ones to the old connector and then just plug them together.

Here is a link to the wires on the new switches. www.hifidefinition.com/berman/kz/switches.jpg

I need the starter, horn, light dimmer, engine stop, turn signals.

What wires from the old harness and new switches need to be connected?

You should grab the CSR wiring diagram off the Filebase, and see what colors go to what switch, then use that info to decide what wire needs to go to the new Suz control. The colors aren't going to match up, so keep notes.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

What would I do for functions that are not supported on the new switches? IE Headlights on/of

You could just have the headlight controlled by the ignition and eliminate the need for the on/off switch. Or just make a switch you can tuck away out of sight that is not on the handlebars. I made a switchbox on my 650 since i took the handlebar controls off, it tucked away behind where the steering meets the double downtubes on my bike, there was enough room to squeeze it in there. Accessing the switches easily while riding was a different story however...

couple of possible project kz's in parts

I have done this type of conversion in the past; you get to do this conversion when you use a wiring harness with the wrong switchgear (non matching). I pretty much know what I am doing and it would take me best part of a day to think my way through the issues and do the actual soldering and rewiring. If you are not comfortable with wiring diagrams and the function of the various electrical bits involved, you might want to reconsider t his project.

By 1982 weren't the headlights on all the time anyway?

They started to hardwire headlights in about 78/79 I think. My 79 KZ1000E1 has hardwired headlights.
