On the "making straps to solidly connect the carbs to the engine"; I had always thought that the reason that the carbs were rubber mounted was to isolate them from engine vibration, which would (might) cause the level in the float bowl to be unstable. The proof of the pudding is clearly in the eating, if those who have installed the straps aren't having any problems.

I did wonder about fuel frothing but it seems to be working for people

I would be more worried about carb sync if there was that much vibration and cobbled streets are a thing of the past. Although the lack of road maintenance in the UK is doing its best to make cobbled streets a thing of luxury!
