Checking my air/fuel setting today. I Started out at 2 turns out. Turned screw in and at 1 7/8 turns out it starts to stumble. Turned screw out and at 2 7/8 turns out the idle does not go up any more. I did one carb first then went on to the other and checked them both three times so I feel that the results were accurate. My question is; do I set them at the highest idle or between the two settings?

The highest idle is the final destination and the best air/fuel ratio.

There is a bit of fudge factor in pilot screw settings. About a 1 turn zone starting where idle speed stops increasing. I live near sea level, but frequently take day trips to higher altitudes. So I set pilot screws to the leanest point before idle rpms drop. If it were the other way around, I would set a turn richer.
