After sitting in the summer heat for 5 months at the mechanic, my air ducts on my 81 are now completely hard as a rock and beyond salvageable. I attempted to install a 77 airbox and new ducts, but come to find out the 77 airbox doesn't fit at all in the 81 frame. At this point, I've yet to see any 81 air ducts for sale, so am unfortunately planning to go to the route of pods. I had planned to install a 4-2 (unknown manufacturer) aftermarket exhaust that is basically a straight pipe. I will likely build a cheap insertable baffle to quiet it down, but will likely still be extremely loud.

The carbs installed on the bike are standard 1981 vm24ss with the pump enabled. Only difference is that I have 1977 carb slides installed so I am able to adjust needle height without a shim. Wondering if anyone has done a similar build, and what would be a good basis to start out on for jetting? Currently have 92.5 main jets, 15 pilot jets, slides needles at position 2, and float levels set to stock specs.

Buy a jet kit.

First get good quality pods not the cheap Emgo's. Put in 17.5 pilot jets and 105 main jets with the needle clip in the middle slot.
