Gave up on my airbox today.
05 May 2011 20:30
I just get sick of fighting the damned thing on and off.
Probably the tenth time I've had to wrestle them off and back on and I just give up. Folding back the airbox tubes doesn't help a lick. Every time I feel like I'm Al Bundy trying to wedge a size 6 on a big ol lady with size 12 feet. :S Now I just need to order a better set of filters and safety wire my side covers on.

No problems with the regular 650 carbs I just fold up the boots. But this CSR has little short boots and I had to push them into the airbox. Haven't put the carbs back in so we'll see what happens when I get to that. If the boots are hard you cannot fold them. The cost of new boots is worth it, but I hear some are unobtainable.
Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Yesterday I thought I was going to have to pull the back wheel off my 750 twin to get the giant airbox out of it's cage. I FINALLY was able to wiggle, push, pull, & twist it out the right side and I only bent one frame tab.

10 was an exaggeration. It's just such a frustration to get them back in that I threw up my hands and put my emgo filters on. They have been torn down, cleaned, attempted to set float height, set too high, leaked like crazy, taken back off, adjusted, drained motor oil, replaced, attempted to reinstall, pod filters installed.
I feel like I'm going to rip or tear the boots every time I try to put them on as I try to wedge the rack between the manifolds and the boots.
I'm ok with my decision at the moment. Just sharing my frustration with the design of the stock airbox. I would prefer to have the airbox, but I need to cool down first before I break the damn thing.
