bored carb jetting?
24 Feb 2011 16:16
hey guys i'm new to the forum. I have been reading post for the past few years and have found some very helpful tips and fixes. thanks to you all for that. Now i have a question i have yet to find anywhere on the internet and hoping maybe some of you can help..
i have bought a set of VM26 carbs.. i have a good friend who works as a machine shop and i have had them oval bored (made a drawing on paint to try to show you the oval bore) to 29.3mm (will try to upload a picture) i am wondering what kind of jetting you would all suggest. 80 ltd 1000 pods, star 4 into 1 no baffle, dyna s, dyna 3ohm coils. no bashing please. my factory carbs on my bike run GREAT i just picked these up for supper cheap and i love to tinker around in the garage just wanted to see what this would do.

What are you running right now for jets?? If it were me I'd go up 3 on the mains and 2 on the pilots and then see what happens and go from there.

not to sure on the pilots the mains are 115 but are way to small with my bike with the factory 28s i have 17.5 pilots and 130 or 135 mains. i think that i may not have to change the 17.5 pilot jet to to the fact that the venturi at closed throttle has not changed.. as the throttle opens the bore becomes larger slowly but at full throttle flows more. maybe just move the needle up a notch and bump the mains 3 sizes or so just seeing what other people thought

works for me!
is it more progressive since its only going to really show up when the throttle is wacked open at higher speeds versus dumping a lot of air at low speeds?

exactly.. i want to still be able to ride around town like a factory carb, but then when you open it up get a little more air than the 26's or 28s would flow.. Plummen you pretty much hit the nail on the head
i don't expect to get huge power gains of anything, if any at all. we'll see

If you havnt changed anything in the head like porting, etc, then I would just stick with stock jetting for now. That small an increase may not be noticable at all (like said).
