First comes the BENCH sync which adjusts all throttle slides to the exact same height (as a beginning position for later "engine running" sync).

While performing the BENCH sync, it's important to have the idle thumb screw set in a position whereby the threads will permit further dropping of the slides during the later "engine running" sync where it's often necessary to reduce rpm.

Failure to have the thumb screw in proper position during bench sync may result in running out of threads needed to sufficiently reduce rpm during the "engine running" sync, in which event the bench sync must be repeated with the thumb screw in correct position.
