Alright, pulled off a couple of the bowls and it's looking pretty bad in there.

One thing, the main jet is stuck in the seat. I made sure to use a screw driver which fit perfect, but it won't budge. I sprayed it with carb cleaner and hope it loosens up.

It has some sort of crystals around the main jet.

A small Butane torch, or careful with a propane torch. A bit of heat to break the grip of the varnish. Doesn't look that bad really. Get at least some new float needle valves and seats, with float gaskets. Best to get a set of kits, probably less than $100.

Get enough mineral spirits to completely submerge that carburetor, remove any plastic or rubber parts, and let it soak for 24 hrs. Then give that jet another try. Mine came apart after the mineral spirit bath. Here's what mine looked like:

Gave them a spray with a little carb cleaner and came back to them a few hours later. Came off nice and easy. Mineral spirits are a solvent which I can't seem to find anywhere. I have auto parts solvent. I'm a little worried about soaking them in something that will ruin them.

I just cleaned mine up yesterday with some Auto Zone carb cleaner in a spray can. It's good stuff same as Berrymans it seems like. I didn't separate them. Just spray blast them down and use some scotch brite pads and a toothbrush for the surfaces. Pull the main and pilot jets spray through the jets and passages and blow out with compressed air. Make sure you can see through the jets. You can clean the pilots with a wire tie with the paper stripped off, like from a loaf of bread. Lemon juice??? That's why we have carb spray.

I appear to have a small jet stamped 50 which covers the pilot jet. I read that these came on 22s on 78 models. My bike is a 77 B. Does anyone have any info on this?

I believe WG said it's to lean things out and can just be left off. Most people leave the carbs on the rack when rebuilding. I did the same but did not have to soak them. I layed them out with welding rod separating all parts to keep everything in order.

I was hopeful that I could get away with keeping them on the rack, but 2 of the carbs were fused and gummed up with the nastiest ancient fuel paste. I imagine if I want to clean the carb bodies well, that pulling them apart is a must?
