Just make sure the gaps are stock if the coils and igniter are stock. This is just to reduce the possibility that the ignition is the source of the misfire. After you are sure the ignition is working, then you can play with gaps later, preferrably with newer coils.

Yes. Unfortunately any needle changes will require a re-sync of the carbs.

Here are some notes for syncing with mercury manometers. (The technical theory part is in the process of some re-writing, but the practical parts remain unchanged.)

OK here's the skinny and it was relatively painless! I went straight to a set of 110 main jets and saw a significant improvement but it still was sluggish on the bottom end. I raised the needles one slot from stock and it was better yet. Raised them one more slot and I have it to the point where I'm gonna put some miles on it and do a plug check to see if anything else needs to be done.

Thanks to everyone for your help and advice!

Took her for her first test ride today. Runs great at high speed. Have some problem trying to idle and a little slow response at take off. Rechecked air screw adjustment and set back to stock and it idles for a short time and will die as if it ran out of gas. I think I need to put some bigger pilot jets in. Stock is 32 any suggestions on how much bigger?

Thanks

If not already done, would just-for-fun check the valve clearances.

Too tight clearances can cause the engine to die at low rpm once the engine attains normal operating temperature.

Good Fortune! :)

To continue; I have ordered some 35 pilot jets to let a little for fuel in at idle and I have opened the hole up on the ignition plate to allow for some adjustment on the timing. I have advanced it forward a couple of degrees and it seemed to helped the response.
