Nope, tuck my tail and haul ass home....
Actually high country (Northern AZ) even get's snow... Yeah I know, didn't believe it myself.... We actually have a couple smaller ski resorts a couple hours out of Phoenix...
Same time, have been in Florida where when driving, rained so damn hard me and every other driver had to pull over for couldn't see a damn thing.... and this was in a truck.... No why would anyone drive a cycle in something as such... whoa! but that's me....

Alright, jesus FINE I won't put pods on my bike. But the airbox is such a pain in the ass to deal with and I was rrreally looking forward to NOT having to wrestle it back up in there when I'm done trying to figure out how to clean and rebuild my carbs. What about a K&N filter? where do I find one of them for an '80 KZ550?

Well I guess I'm the only one for my pods rock on my build with my CR's.... Amazing how most race builds and old time 70's posters show pods of sorts.... hmmm....
Same time, yeah I over analyzed it to death (Plum and Larry roll their eyes) :pinch: I took the time to research the way to go for my engine build, head/valve/camshafts w/P&P carb size and selection for my build... FOR MY RIDING STYLE And DESIRED PERFORMANCE, no one else.... Based on my build, what works for my KZ may not be good for yours....
And No, not yelling at you just making sure I'm clear where for my reply is regarding what worked for ME... before others jump my shit... Tough crowd here at times....
Do an extensive research on the subject matter, not just on KZR with all our opinions ..., speak with some old timers (racers/carb tuners/engine builders), read old articles on performance builds etc....
Here'... Just a few articles and literature I found when learning carb theory, jetting, tuning & tools required... Serious, some good crap here....
kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_docman&...d&gid=461&Itemid=108
Study the pro's & con's of what is best for your build and expectations... Adding pods just to make it easier to pull the carbs off then back on, is it worth it in that alone, who knows, for you to decide...
Nothing wrong in running OEM airbox, others have found good success with it and others have had no issues with pods as well once "Dialed In" regardless of configurations...
Another way to think about it.... When we were kids on our dirt bikes, mud head to toe, raining/mud/grass chunks, cow turds... you name it, single carb and crap filter...
Granted, don;t want cow turds on my air intake but ..... Still ran didn't it....

I was 25 miles from home and it just opened up on me. I don't mind riding in it. Just not when it is raining an inch an hour.

i had fixed a set of new emgo pods that were coming apart by putting a bead of gorilla glue onto the groove with water and spinning em...the filter kept coming off the emgo boot......well on my big sur ride i looked down one stop...and the petcock side filter was just hanging there, how i did not loose it i do not know...bike ran the some with one pod off really...well i push/spun it back on its boot track...when i got home it was dangling again....emgo are not so good in that area...others said theirs did the same thing....
