gas in exhaust

when I start my '82 kz440 with a full choke gasoline comes blowing out of a little hole in the bottom of the exhaust, right where the straight tube joins the megaphone. It stops when the choke is off. bike starts and idles fine. any ideas what is causing this? thanks.

My first suspicion would be that one of the needle and seat (carb float) valves is leaking a bit. Is there fuel in the engine oil?

If so, do not pass GO, do not collect $200. ;)

Fix it before you ride it again. If enough gasoline gets into the crankcase, the engine can hydro-lock, turning the whole thing into an attractive boat anchor...........

Are you sure it's not just condensation in the pipe. If raw gas was coming out like that I doubt it would idle.

I agree. Catch a little in a bottle cap and (carefully) see if it will light with a match. Ed

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'll check it out first thing in the morning (wearing my running shoes in case I have to run really fast.) I'm assuming that those little holes in the pipes are there for that very reason, i.e., to let out moisture.

Well, it's definitely gas coming out of there, and with the engine fully choked it's pouring. when I put it to 1/2 choke it will often rev up to 3500 rpm all on its own, but with no choke it seems to be normal, i.e. no gas coming out. As I mentioned before, it starts and idles great, though there is a bit of whitish exhaust occasionally. I guess it's time to take the carbs off and check it out. also noticed some leaking around the petcock. thanks for all your help, and any further ideas greatly appreciated. I haven't checked the oil yet for signs (smells) of gas in there.
